From The Editor

Dear Reader,

A play on the idea of an incorporation - a brainchild, a business, a brand as well as my operation of ink (figuratively of course), as I am most passionate about writing, this blog serves to provide my opinion and insights on current events in the media.

"Writers always say, 'I always knew I wanted to be a writer; when I was a three-month-old foetus a pen formed in my hand and I began to scratch my first story on the inside of my mother's womb.' I started later, in my early twenties."
- Harlan Coben

That being said, my name is Naledi Sibisi, who in her early twenties, has grown comfortable with the idea that the pen is indeed her portion. For an unspecified period of time, I wish to take you on a journey as I welcome you to The Ink-Operation of N.

Artist Profile: Joshua Mohibidu

Joshua Mohibidu

Joshua Mohibidu is a 19 year old multimedia student who enrolled at the University of Johannesburg to major in photography. The youthful stylist, photographer, graphic designer, illustrator, producer and rapper aims to become a media mogul. Originally from Durban, the Johannesburg dweller drew inspiration from a range of sources from a young age. His art influences include cartoons, hip-hop and National Geographic.

Musical motivation came from underground influences – beats that were readily available
only to the eccentric crowd. These influences include: Questlove, Erykah Badu, Common, J
Dilla, 88 Keys, ASAP MOB and more. He states that the list for his inspiration is as long as the list of musicians that have come out in the last century; testament to the diversity of a true artist.

With regards to the future, Mohibidu strives to be a combination of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs,
Richard Branson, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter and James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey – all key contributors in
different avenues of the global media industry. With music being his first love, the mere fact
that locals have been afforded the opportunity to hear his work is an achievement in itself as
well as it verifies the validity of his goal.
He is currently constructing a company and a list of clientele that make up the elements of a
media house that can provide any component of media required whether it be music,
photography, advertising or promotion campaigns. Music however, remains his primary
focus at this stage.

Mohibidu has been making music for five years now underneath the alias Charlie Brown.
2012 saw the release of his mixtape ‘Far From Perfect’ which featured 16 beats that he
produced. The mixtape was available for download on selected sites. Since its October
release, it has accumulated 137 downloads. His next two tapes are expected this year.

2012 also saw the release of Cigarettes & Concepts, a street fashion, art and lifestyle blog
created by a team in which he is one of the key players. The blog currently has over 4 000
views and features a range of photographs and edits.

Mohibidu partnered with Kopano Makoro in order to inaugurate ‘C&C’ as a company. Since
the blog’s release in June 2012, the team’s photography has received an overwhelming
response from local viewers. Further projects include being a brand ambassador for PIECES; a label owned by local media personality Siyabonga ‘Scoop’ Ngwekazi. He is currently a full time Social Media Strategist at iSPEAKHIPHOP.

Definitely someone worth watching the space for.
