From The Editor

Dear Reader,

A play on the idea of an incorporation - a brainchild, a business, a brand as well as my operation of ink (figuratively of course), as I am most passionate about writing, this blog serves to provide my opinion and insights on current events in the media.

"Writers always say, 'I always knew I wanted to be a writer; when I was a three-month-old foetus a pen formed in my hand and I began to scratch my first story on the inside of my mother's womb.' I started later, in my early twenties."
- Harlan Coben

That being said, my name is Naledi Sibisi, who in her early twenties, has grown comfortable with the idea that the pen is indeed her portion. For an unspecified period of time, I wish to take you on a journey as I welcome you to The Ink-Operation of N.

On the Contr-Harry

Prince Harry, Terry Pheto and Bonang Matheba (You Magazine)
I thought I could ignore this post but it seems two weeks later, the Twitter streets continue to flood with images of Prince Harry of Wales' recent visit to South Africa courtesy of the Sentebale charity organization founded by Prince Harry himself, as well as Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.

The organization assists children who are open to attack, "the forgotten victims of poverty and Lesotho's HIV/AIDS epidemic". Sentebale hosted a gala dinner sponsored by Investec Asset Management on the evening of 28 February 2013 which the Prince of Wales made an appearance at after spending his day in Maseru (Lesotho) helping disadvantaged children. The gala dinner, intended to raise funds for the children's charity was well attended. The Telegraph UK states that the evening "was expected to be attended by the country's wealthiest and most influential dignitaries, with businessmen, philanthropists and celebrities alike flocking to see the Prince"

You Magazine stated that the prince hoped to raise over £2million (about R22million) to build the Mamohato Centre. The purpose of this is to build upon the already existing foundation by helping the children on a more mental level through providing psychological attention and peer mentoring for children and young people with HIV/Aids.

While the cause is admirable, the the gala dinner was held in Johannesburg, city of gold, home to extravagant living. That being said, one can't help but take note of the materialistic aspect of the evening. As previously stated, the most influential in the land came out to see the prince. And so they put on their Sunday best - well, on a Thursday.

Surprisingly, the prince wasn't the show stopper at the lavish event. Not-so-surprisingly, it was in  fact, local presenter and covergirl Bonang Matheba who stole the show in her white number. The powerhouse, who is a television host, model, radio presenter and business-owner amoungst other things, looked like a dream in her gown designed by locally born couture designer Gavin Rajah.

Matheba has worked her way up in the entertainment world in a worthy period of time, beginning her career as a TV presenter for the music show on SABC 1, Live; gradually working her way into greater prospects. She currently owns Bonang Matheba Entertainment, a production company which handled the happenings on the Yellow Carpet during the 2012 MTN South African Music Awards. She is also a presenter on South Africa’s Premier Lifestyle Show Top Billing, broadcast weekly on SABC 3 as well as she is a radio presenter of her own show known as, “The Beehive with the Queen B” on local station, YFM. The cherry on top? Matheba has been featured on the acclaimed Forbes List as one of the 13 African Celebrities to Watch -  and she was indeed a sight to watch.
