From The Editor

Dear Reader,

A play on the idea of an incorporation - a brainchild, a business, a brand as well as my operation of ink (figuratively of course), as I am most passionate about writing, this blog serves to provide my opinion and insights on current events in the media.

"Writers always say, 'I always knew I wanted to be a writer; when I was a three-month-old foetus a pen formed in my hand and I began to scratch my first story on the inside of my mother's womb.' I started later, in my early twenties."
- Harlan Coben

That being said, my name is Naledi Sibisi, who in her early twenties, has grown comfortable with the idea that the pen is indeed her portion. For an unspecified period of time, I wish to take you on a journey as I welcome you to The Ink-Operation of N.

The Miguel Experience

This past Sunday, we took a trip to The Cape Town Ostrich Farm to see the R&B and pop singer/songwriter Miguel perform whilst on his tour to promote his sophomore album Kaleidoscope Dream.

The event, sponsored by Metro FM, the largest national urban station was held outdoors and the gates opened at 11h00 on Sunday morning. The excitement to see Miguel perform was provoked by the weather because if you didn't get the, bring an umbrella, a picnic basket and snacks memo (which most of us didn't) you felt as though you had just been featured in an episode of Lost, the Kalahari edition.

Because nothing happened on stage up until about 16h00 that afternoon, we did however have enough time to sort that out and make ourselves more than comfortable while we anticipated his arrival and local DJ's kept our spirits up. The stage was welcomed by two local performers, Zakes Bantwini and Donald who had commendable performances. As the evening began to creep up on us, the man we had all been waiting for arrived and we quickly forgot all frustrations.

Miguel, who recently won the Best R&B Song award at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, put his all into his performance that left the crowd screaming for more - literally. With my own personal experience with sound and equipment on stage, I dare not doubt his flawless microphone technique and note-perfect vocals. Seldom do we come across performers who are the complete package. Unbeknownst to me, he managed to  dance, channel his inner rock-star, jump around, do the splits, woo every lady in the venue and STILL deliver the perfect falsetto. Might I add that his live performances toppled his CD versions of songs - standing ovation to that kind of talent. I doubt my vocabulary can give you a worthy explanation of the perfection of his voice.

As though that wasn't enough, the easy-on-the-eye man announced that he felt disconnected from the crowd and suggested the gates be opened so that eager fans who only had general access could be closer to the stage. The show was unbelievable, highly entertaining and by far one of the best I've seen thus far which is a big statement coming from me considering nobody could top The Jay-Z Concert in my eyes.

All credit due to the organizers. We would definitely love to see Miguel on South African soil in the near future.
